Kennedy Says He Will Propose to Congress to Liberalize Immigration

President Kennedy announced this weekend that the Administration would send proposals to Congress soon to liberalize immigration laws through redistribution of unused quotas. He said the freeing of unused quotas was the area of immigration reform the Administration was now interested in.

In connection with this announcement, the Jewish War Veterans of the U. S. A. today addressed a letter to Senator Philip A. Hart, who heads the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, suggesting that the revisions of the immigration laws should include closure of the loopholes through which Nazis and fascists are entering the United States. The letter cited the case of Andrja Artukovic, Croatian pro-Nazi leader who was given sanctuary in the United States despite his pro-Nazi record.

JWV National Commander Morton London revealed today that his organization informed Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy that Gustav Hilger, a former Nazi diplomat, is now employed by the Federal Government in Washington as a consultant. Mr. London said the Jewish Veterans had information that Mr. Hilger served as councelor of the Nazi embassy in Moscow and after Hitler invaded Russia was “Nazi Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop’s specialist” in organizing the pro-Nazi collaboration of “pro-fascist, anti-Jewish, and other elements in Russia to serve the Nazi cause.”
