In a letter to Workmen’s Circle branches, unions, Jewish Socialist Verband units and other affiliated labor organizations, the Jewish Labor Committee Friday urged an organized protest to the State and Treasury Departments against the reported proposed loan to Germany.
“You are urged to organize a huge protest movement through petitions signed by labor organizations,” the letter stated, “demanding that the contemplated loan to Hitler’s Germany by American government and bankers’ institutions should under no circumstances be made.
“This step is extremely necessary and important at the present moment because the strength of Hitlerism in Germany is developing; oppression of the Jews, workers, trade unionists, Socialists and Communists is brought to bear more strongly than ever. The economic boycott against Germany which is being carried out with the aid of the American Federation of Labor and all affiliated unions is an important factor in the economic ruin of Germany.
“Should we succeed in preventing the Hitlerite government from obtaining a loan from America, it will mean more economic chaos for Hitler’s Germany, resulting in a more rapid decline of the brutal Hitler regime.”
The letter is signed by B. C. Vladeck, David Dubinsky, J. Baskin and B. Gebiner, officers of the committee.
