More than 250 weddings took place in Israel yesterday during the traditional Lag Ba’Omer celebrations which began at Miron, near Safed, at the Rabbi Shimon Bar Yohai tomb.
Israeli Army units paraded before the tomb while the Army Chief Chaplain read the special order of the day. Youngsters, between the ages of three and five, were brought by their parents for their first haircut. This is regarded as a sign against evil winds. Scouts paraded with torches through Tel Aviv’s streets, and children danced until late around many bonfires.
