In a move designed to prevent use of Storm Troopers as guards at rallies such as that held by the German-American Bund at Madison Square Garden recently, Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia has ordered the various city departments concerned to warn all building owners that they must provide their own ushers at meetings held on their premises. “Under no circumstances,” the Mayor said, “are lessees to be permitted to use their own guards or other persons for the ostensible purpose of preserving order. Only duly licensed special policemen may be used who have been licensed by the Police Commissioner, and who wear only such uniforms as have had the previous approval of the commissioner.”

The Council Against Intolerance in America today congratulated Mayor LaGuardia for his action, in a wire signed by George Gordon Battle, co-chairman.
