Leaders of New York ethnic communities will head to Israel. A delegation of 17 leaders of various New York communities will leave Thursday for a four-day mission in Israel. Sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and UJA-Federation of New York, the group will meet Knesset Member Natan Sharansky, Labor Party leader Shimon Peres and Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lopoliansky, and will visit terror victims and Ethiopian immigrants. The group includes members of the African American, Indian American, Hispanic, Asian and Turkish communities, along with Christian religious leaders. “New York City is blessed with one of the most diverse populations in the United States. We feel that it is extremely important to develop interest and support for Israel amongst as wide a ‘rainbow coalition’ as possible,” said Michael Miller, executive vice president of New York’s JCRC.
