Acting Governor Herbert H. Lehman, who at the end of this month becomes the Governor of New York, today summoned a special session of the Legislature for December 9th, to meet the financial crisis which has imperilled the credit of New York City and jeopardized its unemployment relief conducted among 54,000 families.
The Legislature will be called upon to authorize a ten per cent cut in the city’s mandatory salaries, without which the banks have refused to extend credit to the city.
Acting Governor Lehman will not, it is indicated, limit the work of the special session to this single act, but will permit, it is believed, further economies in line with his own study of the possible reorganization needed.
