Governor-elect Herbert H. Lehman returned to New York on Sunday from a week’s vacation at Asheville and proceeded to Albany where he will serve as Acting Governor during President-elect Roosevelt’s absence from the capital.
Colonel Lehman will be invited to represent the Jewish faith at a dinner of the Inter-Faith Committee, it was announced by Mgr. Michael J. Lavelle, founder and chairman of the committee.
The purpose of the Inter-Faith Committee is to have every child in the public schools receive one hour’s instruction a week “in the faith of his fathers.”
Jews were called upon to unite with Catholics and Protestants to fight growing atheism in a lecture delivered on Sunday in the Chapel of Fordham University by the Rev. Ignatius W. Cox, professor of ethics at Fordham.
The anti-religious activities in Russia, Mexico, Spain and other lands, are making their inroads in this country, the Rev. Cox stated.
