A 10,500-ton Liberty Ship, named after Jacob H. Schiff, the late Jewish leader and philanthropist, was launched here with Mrs. Felix M. Warburg, daughter of Mr. Schiff, acting as sponsor. Built in 28 days the “Jacob S. Schiff” slid smoothly down the ways from the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in a perfect launching. Three generations of Mr. Schiff’s descendants were present as Mrs. Warburg smashed the traditional bottle of champagne against the vessel’s prow.
