Ewen Montagu, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, this week-end reaffirmed the “allegiance and loyalty” of British Jews to Britain. He spoke at the first provincial conference of the organization, which was held at Birmingham this week-end with delegates from all parts of the country attending.
Leonard Stein, former president of the A.J.A., declared that to British Jews, as well as to other Englishmen, Israel is a foreign country. However, he stressed that to Jews it means more than other foreign countries. During a discussion of the situation of the Jews in Eastern European countries, Montague said that he felt that intervention in their behalf was “unfortunately likely to do more harm than good.”
