Six students of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva in New York left last night on the first leg of a journey to Australia where they will spend two years studying at the rabbinical seminary founded by the Lubavitcher movement in Melbourne four years ago. The office of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem M. Schneerson, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the six young men were selected from among 200 candidates because of their special abilities as emissaries for the movement. A spokesman for Rabbi Schneerson said they would spend their summer vacation visiting Jewish communities in outlying areas of the sub-continent. The students, aged 18-21, after a brief sojourn in Israel, will visit Jewish communities in Iran and India before going to Australia. They are the third group of six American rabbinical students sent to study at the seminary in Melbourne.
