During the past nine years $68,185.60 was distributed among seventy-two Hebrew scholars and writers and their widows by the Israel Matz Foundation, according to the report just issued, reviewing the activities of the institution since its inception.
A sum of $9,264.97 was thus paid out to thirty-nine literati and scholars in 1933-34. Among the beneficiaries are many who are foremost in Hebrew literature, who through illness or old age are prevented from making a living. Some of those receiving funds reside in foreign countries, including Palestine.
