Stating beyond doubt that she saw a boy about four years old in whom she recognized Irving Pikelny, the kidnapped New York East-Side child, in care of two Gypsy women on a street car here, a woman who came today to the office of the Jewish World exclaimed “Yes, that’s the child” when shown a picture of the missing lad.
Looking at the boy in the company of the two Gypsy women, the woman who for fear of the gypsies will not reveal her name, says she recalled the story of the kidnapped child, and that his suffering face convinced her of his identity.
Before she could do anything, however, the gypsies got off the car while the child attempted to tear himself free from his companions. He struggled as he lay on the sidewalk but the gypsies lifted him by force and disappeared with the crying child.
The woman told the whole story to a policeman when she got off the car and Chief Mattowitz of the detective bureau declares he is following the case with great caution and that several of his men are working on the clue furnished by the woman.
