Diplomatic circles here were surprised at the failure of Soviet Foreign Minister V.M. Molotov to mention Israel in that part of his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in which he referred to the countries of the Middle East.
Mr. Molotov mentioned Lebanon, Syria, Transjordan, Libya, “etc.” The word “etc” apparently covered Israel, since in his context Mr. Molotov was speaking of the various Middle East states that had gained independence after World War II. “Mr. Molotov’s failure to mention Israel by name is a most extraordinary omission from which those who are interested must draw necessary conclusions,” it was pointed out by diplomats here.
