The Monday Opera Club has abandoned the intention of bringing over the Queen of Roumania, sister of the Grand Duchess Cyril.

Several members of the organization vigorously declared themselves to the effect that the Monday Opera Club would continue as a place of dancing and social relaxation, if it continued at all, and was not to continue along the lines of an arbiter of New York society, which was to be divided into a “fastidiously selected Five Hundred”.

In this connection a statement was issued by Ethan Allen, Treasurer of the Monday Opera Club, denying that the organization had taken any part in defraying the expenses of the Grand Duchess’ visit. The statement which was sent to the members said nothing as to the disposition of the money that had been raised, which on the two occasions of the Grand Duchess’ appearance at Sherry’s was said to be around $40,000.
