The Monument to the Unknown Jewish Martyr was desecrated yesterday when vandals splashed it with red paint and inscribed virulent anti-Semitic slogans. Spokesmen for the monument told police that they have received several threatening phone calls over the last few weeks.
Anti-Semitic pamphlets have also been distributed in the Paris subway. Signed by an anonymous “National Action Committee,” they call for “aryan solidarity against Jewish domination” and for the “departure of all French Jews to Israel — their homeland.” Police sources say they have been trying for several days to arrest the distributors but have failed up till now as no more than half a dozen people, at the most, seem involved.
