Mrs. Joseph M. Welt of Detroit has been named chairman of the program committee for the triennial convention of the National Council of Jewish Women, it was announced yesterday by Mrs. Arthur Brin, president of the Council. The convention will be held in New Orleans March 10 to 15.
The National Council, which is now conducting a membership campaign under the leadership of Mrs. J. L. Langsdorf of Philadelphia and Mrs. A. H. Arons of New York, is the largest and one of the oldest organizations of Jewish women in the country. With sections in 200 cities, it comprises a membership of 40,000.
The program committee for the triennial convention has been divided into two sections, a steering committee and an advisory committee, Mrs. Brin announced. Included on the steering committee are:
Mrs. Charles Rauch, Minneapolis; Mrs. Samuel Glogower, Detroit; Mrs. Gerson B. Levi, Chicago; Mrs. Irvin Bettman, St. Louis, and Mrs. Maurice L. Goldman, New York.
On the advisory committee are:

Pollak, New York; Mrs. Louis Sandperl, St. Louis; Mrs. William de Young Kay, New York; Mrs. Lyman Lehrburger, Boston; Dr. Ray Daily, Houston; Mrs. David Bubis, Nashville; Mrs. Joseph K. Ferguson, Los Angeles; Mrs. Thomas Levitt, Kansas City; Mrs. Julius Cone, Greensboro, N. C., and Mrs. Joseph E. Friend, New Orleans.
105 GIRLS PLACED
The New York Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, through its employment service for the Service of Foreign Born, announced yesterday it had placed 105 girls since the first of June. The majority of these positions were in domestic work, forty girls having been placed in private homes as house workers or maids and twenty-nine as nurses or governesses.
HOSPITAL BENEFIT PLANNED
A musical show, “Madcap Melodies,” will be presented Saturday evening, December 8, at the Bronx Winter Garden by the Esther Ruth Pinkus Hospital Fund of the Bronx Hospital. The group, which has already endowed a bed in the children’s department of the Bronx Hospital, intends to use the proceeds of the affair for the purchase of a Drinker Respirator, or “Iron Lung,” which is indispensible in the treatment of infantile paralysis. Mrs. J. B. Pinkus is chairman of the committee sponsoring the show.
AJC WOMEN HOLD TEA
Mrs. Stephen S. Wise and Mrs. Bernard S. Deutsch, president and treasurer of the women’s division of the American Jewish Congress, will be among the guests of honor tomorrow afternoon at a tea at American Jewish Congress House, 50 West Sixty-eighth street, for presidents of Jewish women’s organizations in the Bronx. Arranged by the Bronx chapter of the women’s division, the tea is intended to assist financially the program of the American Jewish Congress.
HADASSAH GAINS MEMBERS
Membership enrolment in Hadassah from November 1 to November 23 shows an increase of over 1,500 over the same period last year, it was announced yesterday by Mrs. Alexander Lamport, national membership chairman. The membership campaign, now in full swing, will reach a climax Saturday. The day is designated “Hadassah Sabbath,” when hundreds of rabbis will speak on Hadassah from their pulpits.
DR. FINLEY TO SPEAK
Dr. John H. Finley will address 150 Jewish community leaders representing thousands of women interested in charitable endeavors at a tea at the home of Mrs. Richard J. Bernhard, 46 East Seventy-first street, Tuesday afternoon. The tea is being given to stir interest in the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies’ $2,071,000 drive.
