Muslim clerics closed Jerusalem’s Al-Aksa Mosque compound to tourists on Tuesday to protest what they said were attempts by Jewish extremists to pray at the site. The director of the Islamic Trust, or Wakf, which administers the site, said the compound would not reopen until he felt Israeli police were trying harder to keep out extremists.
