More than 1, 500 Jewish refugees from Cuba were among the 4,000 Jewish newcomers resettled in the New York area in 1961 by the New York Association for New Americans, it was announced here today by J. Clarence Davies, Jr., president of the organization. Addressing the agency’s annual dinner, Mr. Davies said that, among the Cuban refugees, were 127 children who arrived in this country ahead of their parents and were cared for by the association until the elders arrived.
Mr. Davies reported that at least 4,600 of the Jewish immigrants expected to arrive in this country in 1962 would be resettled in New York with the aid of the association, which expected to spend over $1,000,000 this year on immigrant aid.
