A temporary injunction banning the activities of George Lincoln Rockwell’s co-called American Nazi Party in New York State was issued today by Kings County Supreme Court Justice Louis Friedman.
The order, which was requested by State Sen. Frank Pino and Assemblyman Irwin Brownstein of Brooklyn, directed Rockwell to appear in court on August 22 to show cause why he should not be permanently enjoined from conducting activities in New York State under the name “American Nazi Party” and from using the swastika emblem.
Justice Friedman, in issuing the injunction, said that no question of free speech was involved in this case. He asserted that Rockwell was a “threat to our way of life, “if newspaper reports about his statements were true.
Rockwell did not appear at the hearing. He notified the court by telegram that the American Civil Liberties Union had advised him not to appear at the hearing.
