The seven-day annual meeting of the national beard of the National Council of Jewish Women, representing 65,000 women in 300 sections throughout the country, concluded today under the chairmanship of Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, national president, after adopting resolutions demanding the opening of Palestine to unrestricted Jewish immigration, and assailing racial and religious prejudices in the United States.
The Council declared in one of its resolutions that the “democratic institutions and the democratic way of life in America are being threatened by growing religious and racial tensions and discrimination.” The resolution on Palestine reaffirmed the Council’s “stand in behalf of the abrogation of the British White Paper of 1939, unrestricted immigration into Palestine, and the upbuilding of Palestine in the spirit of the Balfour Declaration.” Declaring that they were “horrified by the tragic plight of our fellow Jews in Europe and moved by their need to enter Palestine,” the national board urged its members to support this program.
