Die Westfaelische Landeszeitung, Bavarian Nazi paper, today praised in the highest terms Richard Strauss, Austro-German composer and conductor known for his Nazi sympathies, for having withdrawn a forthcoming production of the opera, “Silent Woman,” with a text written by Stefan Zweig, noted German Jewish author. Dr. Strauss cancelled the opening performance of the opera, which was to have taken place in Dresden.
At the same time Dr. Strauss also cancelled his scheduled participation in the Salzburg musical festival in Austria, thus avoiding any collaboration with Jewish artists and demonstrating that he is a 100 per cent. Nazi of the purest “Aryan” dye.
