A district court in Coburg today sentenced Franz Schwede, onetime Mayor of Coburg and later gauleiter of Pummerania, to 10 years imprisonment for mistreating Jews and other prisoners during the Nazi regime. Three other defendants at the same trial received sentences varying from eight months to eight-and-a-half year in jail.
In Bonn a district court sentenced two women to eight months imprisonment each following their conviction on charges of having committed a crime against humanity. After a quarrel with a 74-year-old Jewish women who was living with them, the two women denounced her to the Gestapo which arrested her. Eventually she was shipped to Theresignstadt concentration camp where she died.
