The German military authorities have imported thousands of Jews from Czechoslovakia and Poland for forced labor clearing the debris in Reich cities bombed by the American and British air forces, according to a report from Stockholm reaching here today.
Many trainloads of Jews, the report states, were brought to the Reich from the fortress prison of Terezin in Czechoslovakia, where the Nazis have confined an estimated fifty or sixty thousand Czech and German Jews. Other thousands were taken from the few remaining ghettos in Poland, the report adds. Most of the Jews are being put to work in the cities of Cologne, Essen and Dusseldorf, it discloses.
Another report from Stockholm reaching here estimates that there are still about 30,000 Jews remaining in Lithuania. The report does not disclose where these Jews are living or any other details.
