Special permission was necessary to be granted by Pope Pius XI in order that Sidnev Judah be admitted into the Jesuit order. According to a report in the Catholic press here, this is the first case where the Jesuits accepted into their order a person of Jewish descent. Judah is the son of Jewish parents living in Kingston, British West Indies.
