A parliamentary inquiry into the Targufromos affair, in which a number of Jews and Cuzists were injured when the latter, returning from Professor Cuza’s successful election campaign clashed with the Jews, and satisfaction for the insult to the Jewish religion last week in parliament by Professor Alexander Cuza, anti-Semitic leader, were demanded in a memorandum submitted to M. Popp, chairman of parliament, by Dr. William Filderman, president of the Union of Roumanian Jews.
In the meantime the newspaper, “Adverul,” reports new anti-Semitic excesses in Galatza perpetrated by the youth organization, “Iron Guard.” This is the latest of a series of anti-Semitic disturbances that have been sweeping over Roumania. Bucharest, Jassy, Kishinev, the Bessarabian villages and Targufromos, have all been the scene of attacks on the Jews in the last ten days.
Although the local authorities have been informed by the ministry of the interior that they are to be held responsible for any repetition of the excesses, M. Angelescu, assistant minister of the interior, declared today that the opposition parties are responsible for the difficulties because they are provoking the disturbances in order to put the Maniu government in trouble.
