New Israeli Attache in Washington

Gen. Avraham Adan, who, for the last four months has been commander of the Southern Command which includes the Sinai, has been appointed Israeli Military Attache to Washington. The post has been vacant since Gen. Mordechai Gur, the present Chief of Staff, was recalled after the Yom Kippur War.

Adan, 49; was a member of Kibbutz Nirim when he joined the Palmach, the Hagana crack unit, in 1943. During the War of Independence, he participated in various battles in the south and the Negev. His unit was the first to reach Eilat and he hoisted the Israeli flag there for the first time in 2000 years. He is expected in Washington within a few weeks.
