While admitting that the government is working out a law for an immigration quota, the chief of the department of immigration today informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that there is nothing in the law that will bar immigrants because of their religion or racial origin. The restrictions planned will be according to country and there are no distinctions made against Jewish immigrants nor are any planned, it was stated.
The Mexican Embassy in Washington had confirmed the report that a draft of a law establishing an immigration quota was about to be presented to President Rubio for his approval. While the provisions of the law are unknown to the Mexican Embassy it was reported that the law operates chiefly against Jews and Chinese.
