Adelbert Rueckerl, head of West Germany’s Central Office for Investigation of Nazi War Crimes, with headquarters at Ludwigsburg, left for Israel with some of his assistants today to examine archives in connection with projected war crimes trials. He said that he and his team will examine, among other data, some of the archives at Yad Vashem, the Israeli center for documentation of the Nazi holocaust.
Three former SS men were on trial in Munich today on charges of murdering Jews in Austria in the final weeks of World War II. The defendants are Paul Anton Reiter, 65, Rudolf Schleiffart, 55 and Heinz Beubert, 42.
Cologne police reported today that a grave had been desecrated in the Jewish Cemetery at Frechen near Cologne and that bones had been scattered around the opened grave. The vandals were not caught. The police said that the crime did not appear to be politically motivated but rather that the vandals hoped to find valuables in the coffin.
