President Zalman Shazar of Israel received the heads of Christian churches today to extend good wishes for the New Year and express Israel’s desire for peace. The Greek Orthodox Patriarch, Benedictos, replied that the Christian communities in the country will do their utmost “so that peace and love shall reign here.” The only prelate not to attend was the Latin Patriarch who sent a representative.
