Senator Royal S. Copeland of New York at today’s meeting of the Senate’s committee on immigration, suceeded in having action on the voluntary alien registration bill of Senator Blease of South Carolina deferred until he is able to communicate with the opponents of the bill in New York and elsewhere with regard to requesting hearings for them on the bill.

It is understood that Senator Copeland is prepared to hear from those who desire to be heard on the bill. The bill of Senator Metcalf of Rhode Island to give preference within the quota to skilled laborers was discussed again but no action was taken on it.
