More than $6,000,000 was contributed by Jewish communities from 19 North African and European countries to Israel during 1951, it was reported here today by the European headquarters of the Keren Hayesod. This figure represents an increase of more than 15 percent over the amount raised in the same countries during the previous year.
British Jewry gave more than a half of the total contribution. The Jewish community of Belgian Congo which numbers only 200 families contributed 55,000,000 francs. This is more than the contributions made by the Jewish communities of Italy and Austria together.
