Norway offered to mediate a new agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. After meeting with Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat, Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik said he supported a Palestinian state and urged the implementation of plans set forth by former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell and George Tenet, director of the CIA.
