Nobody—not even Franklin D. Roosevelt, president of the United States—can induce Germany to change its attitude toward the Jews, declared Berlin’s Deutsche Nachrichten today in an article attacking President Roosevelt.
Attacking the American president as an outspoken friend of the Jews, and as an anti-German, the newspaper hinted that the atmosphere in Washington of late has been unfriendly to the German ambassador, Dr. Hans Luther. Due to this unfriendliness, the paper said, Dr. Luther will soon be compelled “to return to Germany for a prolonged stay.”
The appointment of Jesse I. Straus as ambassador to France was also remarked upon by the Deutsche Nachrichten as additional proof of President Rosevelt’s anti-German and pro-Jewish orientation.
