Two Israeli army officers have been dismissed and four others disciplined following an exchange of “friendly fire” last week between units of the paratroopers and the border police that slightly wounded four soldiers.
A major and a captain were cashiered by the chief of the Central Command, Maj. Gen. Danny Yatom, after the incident, which took place near Jenin in the West Bank. Both units had been engaged in anti-terrorist operations.
Among those disciplined was the military commander of the Jenin area, who had overall responsibility for the exchange, in which three border policemen and a paratrooper sustained light wounds.
A military investigator found inadequate coordination between the two units.
