Opposition to regulations limiting immigration is voiced by the Royal Social Office, a Government agency, in a memorandum to the Riksdag committee now considering a proposal to tighten entry laws.
In regard to Jewish immigration, the memorandum said Sweden should assume certain moral responsibilities by assisting international humanitarian cooperation. The bill to restrict immigration was introduced by Right deputies.
There are about 7,000 foreigners in Sweden, the Government agency states, of whom 500, including women and children, are Jewish. It adds that immigration into the country is limited and well-controlled, making further regulations unnecessary.
