Miss Lillian C. Goodman, Welfare Director of the city of Canton and president of the Canton Jewish Community Center, announced last night that she has refused to accept an award from the British Government for her activities in behalf of British servicemen during the war.
The announcement was made at a meeting here to protest recent events in Palestine, attended by 1,000 Jews and non-Jews.
In a telegram to Lord Inverchapel, British Ambassador to this country, Miss Goodman said she was refusing the medal because “it inescapably brings to my mind Great Britain’s broken pledge to my people.”
