The city Council of Omaha decided to bar the Ku Klux Klan from use of the city auditorium, by a vote of 5 to 2.
The action was taken following receipt of an application from Gail S. Carter, who signed himself “grand dragon of the realm of Nebraska, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.”
In seeking the use of the auditorium, Carter argued that Jewish, Roman Catholic and other special groups had been granted use of the auditorium.
Commissioner Harry Trustin, Jewish member of the Council, led the opposition to the application.
