Only by the vote of the president of the council, after his councilmen had been tied in their deliberations, was it decided not to remove the bust of Johann Jacoby, Jewish patriot and revolutionist in Germany in 1848, from the Council chambers. Anti-Semitic agitation had been in favor of so doing.
