The 53rd annual convention of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America opened here today. About 2,000 delegates representing the 440 congregations affiliated with the Union are attending the five-day parley, which will be devoted to mapping a program of Jewish religious action in this country.

In a message to the convention, President Truman expressed his strong belief “in the power of religion to guide us toward a world order based on righteousness and justice. The ethical teachings of the Hebrew prophets, perpetuated through the centuries by traditional Judaism, are among the moral forces that must be mobilized toward this great purpose.”
