Oscar Israel Philipp, Hebrew Scholar and Publisher, Dead at 77

Oscar Israel Philipp, British metal broker and philanthropist, died here this weekend at the age of 77. Born in Wandsbeck, Germany, Mr. Philipp came in 1909 to England, where he was a former chairman of the Bachad fellowship, a member of the executive committee and council of British ORT, joint treasurer of Jews’ College, and treasurer of the London Board of Jewish Religious Education. A Hebrew scholar, Mr. Philipp was a founder and director of a Hebrew Publishing House and, later, an active member of the Jewish community in Geneva, where he lived after his retirement.
