Plans for the conversion of Palestine’s war industry to peace time pursuits, and the steps being considered by the government to prevent chaos in the transition period, were outlined here by Wilson Brown, Controller of Heavy Industry.
The Palestine Government, Mr. Brown told a press conference, has worked out a comprehensive scheme aiming at “painless” conversion. It is cooperating with employers in the various industries involved, he said, and he appealed to the public to assist in these efforts “which are aimed at developing the country.”
It was announced that Palestine exported $15,000,000 worth of diamonds in the past year. A delegation representing the local diamond industry is conferring in London with representatives of the world diamond cartel, and with the Colonial Office, on the future of the industry after the war.
