Complaints that the Government was slashing its grants-in-aid for Jewish educational, health and religious courts requirements were voiced at a meeting of the Vaad Leumi. In a report on the council’s financial position, Dr. Berl Katznelson declared the Government was contributing only $225,000 towards the Vaad Leumi’s education budget, which totals $1,650,000.
For the council’s health program the Government is granting a like amount, while the religious courts are being allotted only $25,000, Dr. Katznelson asserted. He contrasted these allocations with an estimated Government expenditure in 1937 of $1,000,000 for Arab schools.
