Palestinian officials are seeking assurances from the United States that it will pressure Israel to implement already signed accords in exchange for a Palestinian promise to delay a unilateral declaration next month of a Palestinian state. The officials, led by Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat’s deputy, are currently in Washington to discuss the issue.
