Palestinians fired a large mortar shell from the Gaza Strip into Israel. The shell landed near a kibbutz, but caused no damage or injury. Israeli officials charged that the Palestinians had for the first time used a large 120-millimeter mortar, which has a range of more than two miles, adding that the use of such weapons marked an “escalation in the Palestinian violence.”
