The summit meeting between Premier Shimon Peres and President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt appeared certain to take place Thursday as scheduled, in Alexandria, the Foreign Ministry indicated Wednesday.
David Kimche, Director General of the Foreign Ministry, who is in Cairo, told reporters there that a compromis agreement over arbitration of the Taba border dispute is expected to be reached by the Israeli and Egyptian negotiators Wednesday night.
He said if that is accomplished, the Egyptian Cabinet would convene immediately to approve the compromis and it would be signed, paving the way for the summit to be held. He said once the compromis is signed the summit “very probably” would take place.
His optimism was shared by policymakers in Jerusalem. An advance party of Israelis was preparing to leave for Alexandria later Wednesday.
