Philadelphia Rabbis Urge Sabbath Observance on New Year’s Eve

The religious observance committee of the Philadelphia Board of Rabbis has issued an appeal to members of the Jewish community and communal organizations here “to maintain the sanctity of the Sabbath by not arranging and/or sponsoring any public celebrations on New Year’s Eve. ” New Year’s Eve falls on Friday evening this year. The Board’s appeal, issued by Rabbi Morris Pickholz, chairman of the committee, stressed the fact that it represents “all interpretations of Judaism in this area.”
