Funeral services were held here yesterday morning for Ozer Smolenskin, Yiddish poet who died here Saturday morning following a series of illnesses.

Smolenskin was seventy-two years old. He was born in a small town in Poltava Province, Russia, and came to New York in 1893, when he was thirty-one. Shortly thereafter he settled in this city.

About a year and a half ago a volume of Smolenskin’s selected poems was published by the Hebrew Literary Society and the Philadelphia branch of the Yiddish Culture Society.

Smolenskin was also known as the translator into Yiddish of works by Maxim Gorky and others.

The deceased is survived by his second wife and five children.
