Louis Marshall and Dr. Solomon Solis-Cohen will deliver the principal addresses at the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of the Hebrew Sunday School Society, to be observed on March 4. Dr. Cyrus Adler will preside.
The celebration will take place at the Mikve Israel Synagogue, Broad and York Streets, where the Hebrew Sunday School Society had its origin.
On Sunday, March 4, ninety years ago, the foundation was laid for the institution. Led by Rebecca Gratz, a group of women met on that day, forming the Hebrew Sunday School Society. The anniversary of the birth of Rebecca Gratz also falls on March 4.
The addresses to be delivered by Mr. Louis Marshall and Dr. Solomon Solis Cohen, are part of a program which will demonstrate the city-wide influence which the society wields through its various schools. At present the society maintains thirty-one schools providing Jewish education for more than eleven thousand Jewish boys and girls. In addition, the society also provides religious education for 827 dependent and institutional children.
