The Center for Documentation and Information on Israel (CIDI) and the Netherlands Auschwitz Committee have protested to Amsterdam’s chief prosecutor over the failure of police to take action last week against anti-Semitic behavior by supporters of the soccer club of The Hague.
About 80 of The Hague supporters shouted “Jews” and “Ajax is a Jewish Club” on their way to the Olympic Stadium last Wednesday for a match against Ajax, a team which has traditionally had a number of Jewish players and administrators.
The mostly young rowdies were escorted by more than 300 police along their route from the railway station to the stadium, as serious vandalism had been expected. The Hague supporters repeated their jibes on their way back to the railroad station following the match. Police arrested six young people and charged them with acts of vandalism, but took no action to halt the shouting.
