Col. Bronislaw Pieracki, Polish Minister of the Interior and determined opponent of political anti-Semitism, fell here this afternoon on the steps of his home, the victim of an assassin’s bullets.
The murder of Marshal Pilsudski’s intimate friend and associate climaxed a series of outrages and acts of terrorism in all parts of the country which received striking impetus in connection with the visit here of Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, Nazi propaganda chief.
ASSASSIN ESCAPES
Col. Pieracki was shot as he was returning to his home this afternoon by an unidentified assailant who succeeded in making his escape. He died shortly afterward after an emergency operation.
Although the assassin was not discovered, the general conviction held by the authorities was that the murder was an act of vengeance by the National Radicals (Naras) for government action undertaken to suppress the terroristic attacks of the Naras on the Jews.
The government yesterday took action against the Naras in several districts where the Nara attacks verged on a pogrom, closing headquarters of local Nara groups and suppressing a Nara newspaper, Col. Pieracki, as Minister of the Interior, was reported as charged with directing action against the anti -Semitic, anti-government group.
